Bayswater-Morley v Joondalup Joondalup has stunned Bayswater-Morley with a brilliant bowling performance, bowling the Bears out for 91 to secure an eight-wicket win on Saturday at Hillcrest Park. The decision to bowl by Joondalup turned out to be something of a masterstroke, as the Centurions’ bowlers came out breathing fire. Connor Chadwick and Joe Inglis blasted their way through the Bears’ opening line up, combining to take the first five wickets for just 17 runs. Lane Berry and Ross Loiacono attempted to reconstruct the innings with a fighting 35-run partnership, but Clinton Hinchliffe inserted himself into the match with a brilliant run out, inflicting more pain on the Bears at 6-52. Berry tried his best for the Bears, but partners came and went with ease as Chadwick continued his dominance with the ball. Berry was eventually dismissed for 38 as the Bears were bowled out for a disappointing 91 in the 29th over. Chadwick was tremendous with the ball in hand, taking 5-32 from just eight overs. The Centurions barely raised a sweat when chasing down the Bears’ total. Clinton Hinchliffe and Jaron Morgan combined for a sensational 64-run third-wicket partnership to chase down the total after just 12 overs. Morgan ended the day unbeaten with a quick-fire 49 from 19 balls, which included six fours and two sixes. Fremantle v Perth Fremantle and Perth have fought out an epic encounter, with the Demons getting home on the last ball of the innings to win by three wickets on Saturday at Stevens Reserve. After being sent in to bat, Fremantle got off to a shaky start, falling to 3-37 after a quick start by Perth bowlers Liam Guthrie and Josh Nicholas. However, Daniel Kennedy came to the crease at number four and immediately made an impact. Kennedy and Chris Davenport quickly set about correcting the innings, producing a handy 33-run partnership to push the score to 70. Although Fremantle looked to be cruising, two quick wickets to Perth saw the home side faltering at 5-88. Fortunately for Fremantle, Kennedy was still at the crease and partnered up magnificently with Matthew Micale to produce a stunning 99-run sixth-wicket partnership. The run out of Micale at 6-187 by Demons paceman Josh Nicholas provided the catalyst for a tremendous batting collapse. Nicholas kicked into overdrive, skittling the tail and taking all four final wickets to claim a staggering 7-29 and hold Fremantle to 199. With the target set, Perth got off to a similar start to Fremantle, falling to 2-23 before Jordan Mast and Tom Scollay resurrected the innings with a much-needed 72-run partnership. However, when Mast was dismissed for 62 and Scollay fell shortly after, the match appeared to be back up for grabs. Although Fremantle’s bowlers seemed to be on top, an 86-run partnership by Sean Roberts and Jacob Snadden put the Lions back in the box seat to claim victory. With only 13 runs to chase down for victory, the Demons suffered a massive scare, losing three wickets in the space of 10 runs to be 7-197. However, the steady hands of Jack Baker guided the Demons to victory, hitting the winning runs on the final ball of the match of what turned out to be an epic encounter. Gosnells v Midland-Guildford Midland-Guildford has broken through for its first win of season 2018-19, producing a brilliant all-round performance to defeat Gosnells by three wickets at Sutherlands Park on Saturday. After being sent in to bat, Gosnells struggled its way to 6-31 as the Black Swans’ bowlers initiated a horrendous batting collapse. Keaton Critchell was simply superb with the ball early, taking four of the first six wickets. However, Luke McNamee and Liam Duffield managed to settle in to the match, defending their way to a hard-fought 81-run partnership to give Gosnells a defendable total. At 6-112, Midland-Guildford finally broke up the partnership, with Thomas Gosling removing McNamee for 41 with a brilliant delivery. Duffield and Jeremy McFarlane then fell in quick succession, leaving Gosnells reeling on 9-119. Some late innings big hitting from Chris Prescott and debutant Blake McGann saw the score boosted to 149 as the visitors wrapped up the tail. With a small target to chase down, Midland-Guildford’s run chase got off to a terrible start, falling shockingly to 3-8. However, James Kirwan managed to dodge the blistering barrage from the Gosnells bowlers to score a hard-fought 39-run partnership with Austin Thomas. The loss of Thomas did nothing to slow Kirwan down as he dug deep to anchor the innings for Midland-Guildford. At 6-91 and sensing the Black Swans could potentially snatch their first win of the season, Kirwan teamed up with youngster Hudson Knight, boosting the total to 123 with a hard-earned 32-run partnership. With Knight falling at 7-123 and the game on the line, Kirwan and Shaun Cohen kept a cool head under pressure to guide the Black Swans to their first victory of the season, chasing down the target with just under four overs to spare. Mt Lawley v Claremont-Nedlands Claremont-Nedlands has dominated Mt Lawley with the bat, chasing down the Hawks’ total with ease to secure a seven-wicket win on Saturday at Breckler Park. After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Hawks found themselves in trouble early at 2-34. However, Dylan Sharman and Ethan Petta put the Tigers’ bowlers to the sword, scoring a brutal 101-run third wicket partnership to put the match back in their favour. With the Hawks seemingly on a roll, Daniel Turkich finally got the breakthrough for the Tigers, knocking over Petta for 47 at 3-135. Sharman fell just moments later for 60, bringing in the Hawks’ inexperienced middle order. Second-gamer Nicholas Marciano teamed up with another youngster in Gurkeerat Pabla to push the total to 170 after scoring a 35-run partnership. However, following the loss of Pabla at 5-170, the Tigers’ experienced bowling line up started to flex their muscle, taking the final five wickets for just 55 and bowling the Hawks out for 225. Matthew Kelly was the pick of the bowlers for the Tigers, taking 3-41 from nine overs. With a sizable target to chase down, Tigers’ openers Jacob Whiteaker and Nicholas Hobson blasted the match wide open with a tremendous 95-run opening partnership before Hobson fell for 45. Whiteaker was dismissed shortly after producing a half-century as the Hawks attempted to reel in the increasing run rate. However, with Kelly and Bradley Hope at the crease, the pair merely accelerated the run rate, producing a 67-run third wicket partnership to put the match firmly in the Tigers’ grasp. Hawks bowler Luke Berendsen finally got the breakthrough, bowling Kelly for a quick-fire 55 from 35 balls. At 3-178, the Tigers were not troubled from that moment on, as Hope and James Crawley chased down the remaining 47 runs with ease to secure the seven-wicket win in the 43rd over. Rockingham-Mandurah v South Perth South Perth has produced a stunning upset, defeating ladder leaders Rockingham-Mandurah by 38 runs on Saturday at Lark Hill. After winning the toss and electing to bat, South Perth got its innings off to a solid start, with openers Braydon Meuleman and Tom Banton scoring 58 and setting the tone for the day. Craig Simmons managed to snatch the first wicket of the day, knocking over Meuleman for 22, before Banton was run out by Joel Marion moments later. With the match back in the balance at 2-61, David Cleary and Darius D’Silva exploded with the bat for South Perth, producing an exquisite third-wicket partnership worth 134. The pair put South Perth firmly in the box seat to score an imposing total before Simmons struck again for the Mariners, removing Cleary after a terrific knock of 71. Simmons proved to be much more than just a thorn in South Perth’s side as he took another two wickets and restricted the flow of runs for the visitors. D’Silva managed to guide South Perth to a defendable 6-225 at the end of the 50 overs, finishing with an unbeaten 75 from 117 deliveries, while Simmons was the pick of the bowlers for the Mariners, taking 4-48. With a decent target to chase down, the Mariners found themselves struggling to construct a noteworthy partnership as Darius D’Silva and Alex Bevilaqua ripped through the Mariners’ top order. At 5-68, Brandon Jacobs and Nathan Vernon managed to fight their way through the barrage of bowlers to produce a hard-fought 69-run sixth-wicket partnership. Although the Mariners looked in control halfway through the run chase, D’Silva had not yet finished inflicting more damage upon Rockingham-Mandurah’s batting line up, as he removed Vernon at 6-137 to spark another batting collapse. The final four wickets fell in the space of 45 runs, as the Mariners were bowled out for 187, falling 38 shy of South Perth’s total. D’silva was spectacular with the ball for the visitors, taking 4-37 from his 10 overs. Scarborough v Willetton Scarborough has defeated Willetton by six wickets in an amazing high-scoring encounter, with Liam Knight and Edward Barnard producing a match-winning partnership on Saturday at Abbett Park. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Willetton got off to a terrific start, with a solid 64-run second-wicket partnership by Aaron Hardie and James Godfrey. The loss of Hardie at 2-88 did nothing to slow Godfrey down as he joined forces with Will Rhodes to produce an unbelievable partnership. The dynamic duo racked up 174 during their third wicket stand, boosting the score to 262 before Godfrey was finally dismissed after scoring 129. The loss of Godfrey at 3-262 sparked a major batting collapse for the dragons, losing five wickets in the space of 15 runs to finish the innings on 8-287. Although the Dragons would have been slightly disappointed with the total considering where they were sitting, it was still an imposing total and it would have looked more imposing to the Gulls as they stumbled to 3-48 early in the innings. However, a miracle arrived for the Gulls in the form of Edward Barnard and Liam Knight. The prolific pair produced a simply outstanding fourth-wicket partnership worth 218, putting Scarborough in the box seat to win the match. Barnard was eventually dismissed at 4-266 after producing a brilliant century, but the damage was done for the Dragons, with Scarborough romping away to an extraordinary victory after chasing down the total with six balls to spare. Knight was simply amazing with the bat, finishing on 103 from 106 balls, with seven fours and four sixes coming from his blade. University v Melville Melville has continued its climb up the ladder with a nail-biting one-wicket win over University, with Usman Qadir hitting a six on the second last ball of the match to secure the incredible win on Saturday at James Oval. After winning the toss and electing to bat, University struggled to find any consistency early, battling its way to 3-36. However, Viv Paver and Matthew Birrell produced a sublime 107-run fourth-wicket partnership which swung the momentum back firmly in University’s favour. After the flurry of runs throughout the fourth-wicket partnership, Melville’s bowlers managed to slow the run rate down and constrict the University batsmen. Following the loss of Paver for 65 at 4-143, University slumped to 9-198 as Mark and Brad Turner combined perfectly with the ball throughout the last half of the innings. University managed just three more runs to finish the innings on 9-202, with Paver top scoring with 65 from 86 balls. Mark Turner was terrific with the ball for the Storm, taking 3-28 from nine overs. With a smallish total to chase down, Melville began its innings in an eerily similar fashion to University, struggling to 3-18 before a solid fourth-wicket partnership from Fraser Hay and Drew Porter worth 53 put the match back on an even keel. Although Porter was removed at 4-71, Hay continued to battle away for the Storm, teaming up with Tom Smith to add 43 to the total before he was eventually bowled by Mitchell Drennan after a fighting knock of 75. The loss of Hay at 6-138 saw the Storm drop two more wickets in quick succession, faltering to 8-158 with the game coming down to the wire. Ryan Duffield and Usman Qadir managed to boost the total to 186 before Bailey Richards knocked over Duffield and seemingly put the match in University’s hands. Needing only 17 to chase down for victory, Qadir – who came in at number 10 – made a nuisance of himself, edging the Storm close to victory with a couple of well-timed sixes. With the match coming down to the final two balls at 9-202, Qadir let loose with a sensationally timed six to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat in the most amazing circumstances. Qadir finished with 32 from 25 balls, including three sixes, while Josh Dallimore did his best for University with the ball, taking 3-30. Wanneroo v Subiaco-Floreat Subiaco-Floreat has catapulted itself into the top six after a commanding seven-wicket win over Wanneroo on Saturday at Kingsway Sports Ground. After winning the toss and electing to bat, Wanneroo found the going tough early, crumbling to 4-53 thanks to some crafty bowling from Lions’ pair Lucas Martin and Michael Hart. However, Travis Birt joined Kyle Millar at the crease and immediately made an impact. The pair scored a hard-fought 51 during their fifth-wicket partnership, boosting the total to 5-104 as Millar was removed by Lions’ skipper Chris Hansberry. The loss of Millar did little to slow Birt down, as he teamed up with Bailey Nylander to add 51 to the total. The loss of Nylander at 6-155 saw the tail collapse quickly around Birt, with Hansberry lighting up the back end of the innings with the ball, finishing with 5-53 as the Roos were bowled out for 213. Birt remained an anchor throughout the final overs, finishing on 108 not out from 96 deliveries. With a reasonably small target to chase down, the Lions got themselves off to a rocky start, losing openers Calum How and Tim Monteleone to be sitting awkwardly on 2-40. However, Hamish McKenzie and Cameron Green navigated through a few nervous deliveries to produce a stunning fightback, scoring 95 in a brilliant third-wicket partnership. At 3-135 following the loss of McKenzie for 47, Green continued to blast the Roos bowlers from pillar to post as the Lions cruised to a seven-wicket victory. Green was unbelievable with the bat, finishing unbeaten on 117 from 119 balls, with six fours and six sixes coming from his blade.
