MAYLANDS star Aleisha Power has been named in the WA Diamonds squad for the Australian Hockey League to be held in Perth later this year.

The competition will feature teams from interstate and athletes from national teams.

Eighteen potential debutants across both women’s and men’s squads are in line for their first appearance for WA.

Diamonds head coach Rob Hammond said the women’s squad had a good mix of youth and experience.

“We are really excited about the potential this group has,” he said.

“The selectors were charged with finding a group that will hold us in good stead in the future but also with the short term focus of being competitive at this year’s AHL.”

Thundersticks head coach Jason Butcher said the men’s development program offered many opportunities to players.

“We have had nearly 60 athletes involved in the program this year, with opportunities provided against Liaoning Province, Malaysia and the recent series against Great Britain,” he said.
