A MALAGA powerlifting gym will send a 10-member team to Gold Coast for the National Championships in July.

PTC coach Dan Rucci said the team had a good chance to achieve success.

“Our team this year heading to Nationals is a good mix from juniors all the way to masters lifters, many of them holding national records in their respective weight classes,” he said.

“Two of the team qualified first nationally and are expected to do very well.”

“With any luck we should be bringing home a handful of medals and possibly more national records.”

Ballajura resident and team member Dani Pearsall, who had qualified for the 60kg weight division, said the preparation had been “full-on”.

“At the moment it is still doing volume but as the weeks progress it gets heavier when we fine-tune our skill base,” she said.

“We also do what we want to achieve on the platform, so we will do squats, bench and lift.”

The 2016 GPC Open National Championships will be held from July 8-10.
