SBL: East Perth Eagles men soar but women’ mauled by Tigers

The men’s team pushed Willetton off top spot by defeating the Tigers 92-81, which ended their four-match losing streak.

Captain Drew Williamson led his team with 22 points and five assists.

Eagles’ Kevin Anthony was given a bit more court time and delivered 12 points.

Kevin Davis finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Joe-Alan Tupaea (11 points) and Dennis Tawhiti (10 points) also starred.

Coach Joe-Alan Tupaea said he was pleased with the result.

“This was a massive win for us, not only to help us get back into the top 8 but also to regain confidence amongst the players,” he said.

“The past few weeks have been quite frustrating, as we’ve lost to teams we know we should’ve beaten and it’s put us in a tough spot for the run home to the finals.”

Meanwhile, defending champions Willetton’s women team broke a three-match losing streak to defeat the Eagles 77-62.

The Eagles fought hard for three quarters but the Tigers bounced back in the fourth quarter, scoring 26 points to 14 to clinch the 15-point win.

Abbey Duinker top-scored for the Eagles with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Rising star Bree Fisher put out a strong effort with 10 points and six boards.
