SBL: East Perth suffers losses to Lakeside in men and women’s comps

EAST Perth Basketball Association’s senior teams suffered losses to Lakeside Lightning in round 7 of the State Basketball League (SBL) at the weekend.

The Eagles men’s team were on a winning streak at Morley Sport and Recreation Centre but Lightning spoiled the party to hand them a 92-78 defeat.

Lightning’s Devon Atkinson led his team to the much-needed victory with 31points.

Kevin Davis top-scored for East Perth off the bench with 20 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Drew Williamson added 19 points, six boards, five assists and two steals while Ngor Manyang had eight points and 11 rebounds and Corey Easley scored eight points and eight boards.

The Eagles women’s team lost to Lightning 87-58 despite restricting Lightning’s Ali Schwagmeyer to 12 points.

Eryn Fisher top-scored for the Eagles with 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Nicole Jorre St Jorre contributed 11 points, six boards, four steals and three assists.

Assistant coach Bill Edwards said this year’s SBL was an exciting contest, with every team playing their imports.

“Our effort and belief needs to be there, as our season is on the line,” he said.
