Soccer: Ballajura youngsters and police share Common Goal

COMMUNITY soccer players and WA Police will lace up their boots for a friendly tournament in Ballajura on Sunday.

Mirrabooka-based Edmund Rice Centre WA, Football West, WA Police, Mirrabooka and Canning mosques, Cities of Stirling and Canning launched the Common Goal program in 2016, to address the needs of multicultural youth.

The event will feature teams that represent a football-playing nation to celebrate the program and the game.

Common Goal is funded by the Department of Local Governments, Sport and Cultural Industries.

The program consists of weekly training sessions and weekend extension opportunities, including matches, excursions and professional development.

The program is open to all young people, male and female (between eight and 18 years old), with the aim to provide opportunities to young people who may be disengaged or lack opportunities in a sport and leadership environment.
