Soccer: Floodlights to help Bayswater City host night finals

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

BAYSWATER City is now able to host blockbuster night and finals matches after the recent installation of four National League-standard floodlights.

The City of Bayswater, Federal and State Governments helped fund the $300,000 project.

Previously, the four-time premiership club was unable to host night series matches at home due to non-compliant floodlights.

Bayswater City building committee manager Greg D’Orazio thanked all tiers of government for their contributions, especially the City for coordinating and overseeing the process from start to finish.

“This will give our club the opportunity to engage local residents, generate income to make the club sustainable and become a truly community-based place,” he said.

Mayor Dan Bull said the upgrade would create a space for soccer players to build their skills.

“The Bayswater City Soccer Club will now be able to host pre-season night series, mid-week night, twilight and knockout-final soccer games throughout the year,” he said. “The entire community will also be able to make use of the reserve after dark.”

Maylands MLA Lisa Baker said she helped secure $100,000 from the State Government.

“Bayswater Soccer Club had a 20-year lighting system that did not meet Australian standards,” she said.

“Bayswater is one of the premier clubs in the country and are doing fantastic work with youth-focused programs.”
