Soccer: local juniors off to National Youth Championships

Representing the under- 13s team are Ballajura’s Jonty Pearson and Christian Belladonna, of Dianella.

Meanwhile, Yokine resident Jacob Range, Dianella’s Nick McDonald, Maylands’ Ben Jones and Morley duo Jayden Lam and Riley Warland have been selected in the under-14 side.

Football West technical manager Cris Ola said the Championships were important in identifying talented players capable of progressing further in the junior system.

“WA players have been improving every year and there is an expectation that our teams will play a good and attractive brand of football,” he said.

“We have a good pool of talent and there’s no reason why some of the boys heading to Coffs this year can’t make it to the next level.

“They should all be encouraged by the recent success we had in having four WA players in the Joeys squad at the Asian Football Confederation U16 Championships in India.”

John Walmsley would coach the under 13s team and former Perth Glory player Mitchell Prentice was in charge of the under- 14s.
