EASTERN suburbs junior soccer players helped WA’s two teams finish second at the National Youth Championship in Coffs Harbour earlier this month .

Under-13s player Christian Belladonna, from Dianella, booted three goals across five games for his team.

The under-14s side boasted Morley residents Jayden Lam and Riley Warland, Dianella’s Nick McDonald, Yokine’s Jacob Range and Ben Jones, of Maylands.

Warland scored in the team’s 4-2 win against ACT.

Football West technical manager Cris Ola said both teams produced great soccer.

“Both teams played with a structured build-up and they took a proactive approach to defending, which produced a very good brand of football,” he said.

“The U14 team didn’t lose a game and were the only team to beat the eventual winners Victoria Metro, who they handled comfortably in a 4-1 victory in the first game.

“Results are not the sole indicator of how well a team has performed, but it was pleasing to see that the boys were playing an attractive style and that it was often rewarded with a positive outcome.”

Ola said he hoped players were identified for the Australian Institute of Sport and the national team.

WA’s under-13s team won the Nationals in 2013, three years after the under-15s team claimed glory.
