FREMANTLE Football Club’s female side will have a distinct black and white theme running through it, after the club announced it had signed Swan Districts stars Ebony Antonio and Kirby Bentley.

The duo, who are coming off another WA Women’s Football League (WAWFL) grand final win were announced as priority picks for the club, which recently announced fellow Swan Kara Donnellan and Coastal Titans player Kiara Bowers as marquee players.

Bentley and Antonio come from strong football backgrounds, with both playing under Fremantle coach Michelle Cowan in the women’s exhibition series.

Swans chief executive Tom Bottrell said the signing of the pair, was a testament to how well the club and had developed its female players.

“Anytime our players are selected in the National Draft it shows the rest of the country how well players are developed at Swan Districts Football Club,” he said.

“The success of our female program was further endorsed yesterday with two more players selected by the Fremantle Dockers.”

Two-time WAWFL premiership and State Basketball League championship player Antonio said the chance to continue working with Cowan who she played under during her time at Melbourne Football Club was a big factor in her decision to join the club.

Former Perth Orioles player Bentley said she was excited to see a pathway for up and coming players.

Bentley and Antonio were two of four new players announced by the club on Wednesday.

They join Olympian javelin athlete Kim Mickle and East Fremantle player Gabby O’Sullivan.

The national female competition kicks off before the 2017 AFL season.
