Swimming: Central Aquatic Swimming and Lifesaving Club members set sights on Commonwealth Games trials

RISING swimmers from Central Aquatic Swimming and Lifesaving Club in Bayswater are aiming to qualify for the 2018 Commonwealth Games selection trials at the upcoming WA Swimming Championships.

Adrian Rogers, Jaxson de Lacy, James Kerr, Teegan Watson and Jacob Dearle will be competing at the state titles.

Coach Wayne de Lacy said Rogers, Kerr and Jaxson were likely to swim fast times in order to qualify for the trials.

At the 2017 Long Course State Championships last month, Rogers finished first in the 200m freestyle (1:55.87) in age national qualifying time and achieved the time of 1:05.52 in the 100m backstroke finals.

Dearle came second in the 200m freestyle (2;01.10) and 100m backstroke (1:04.34) and also claimed a national qualifying time for freestyle.

Watson finished second in the 100m backstroke with a time of 1:08.68.

The WA Swimming Championships will be held HBF Stadium from January 19 to 21.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games trials will take place from February 28 to March 3 at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.
