DIANELLA resident Liam Egan has started preparations for the National Taekwondo Championships after winning gold at the Sports Taekwondo Western Australia (STWA) 2017 State Championships this month.
Having been involved in taekwondo since the age of five, Liam (12) joined the elite Olympic World Taekwondo Alliance (WTA) training group this year with hopes to compete internationally in the future.
“I train for world Taekwondo at ATI Malaga four times a week and participate in other classes as well plus each school holidays I attend a taekwondo training camp,” Liam said.
“My last fight was very exciting and definitely a challenge competing against the best in WA.”
Liam’s mother Michelle Taylor said what started out as a fun, fitness sport has helped Liam with mild difficulties.
When he was younger he had concentration problems and martial arts has really helped him focus,” she said.
“I am amazed at what he has achieved, even when he is aching from the day before he shows up.”
Since competing at ATI Malaga at six-years, Liam has won several medals including gold at the Perth Open and silver the WA Cup.
