THE first virtual triathlon in Bayswater starts on September 21, where athletes run, swim and cycle the equivalent distance of travelling around Australia, but get nowhere.

Held at Bayswater Waves and The RISE, participants will run on treadmills, swim laps and cycle on stationary bikes to rack up 15,600km.

Bayswater Mayor Sylvan Albert said it was a fantastic opportunity for residents to get involved and improve their self-esteem and general fitness.

“Exercise is one of the most significant parts of keeping our bodies at a healthy weight and helps people lose weight, while at the same time lowers the risk of some diseases,” Cr Albert said.

High-profile triathlete Matt Burton, who won the U23 Triathlon World Championship, will be taking part.

The initiative is free for members and casual members, with new members welcome. Call Bayswater Waves on 9276 6538 or The RISE on 9208 2400.
