WACA Premier Cricket: Bayswater-Morley in trouble against Fremantle

Kristie LimEastern Reporter

MID-table Bayswater-Morley blew a golden chance to push for the finals places on the opening day of their round 8 Premier Cricket clash with Fremantle at Stevens Reserve.

The Bears decimated the second-placed Port Boys’ star-studded line-up, reducing them to 8-140, before allowing them to sneak to 237, with Scorchers youngster Jhye Richardson scoring 87.

Freo inflicted further late damage, with Bayswater-Morley ending the day at 4-51 from 31 overs by stumps.

Nathan Rimmington, who will head off this week to join the Melbourne Renegades for the Big Bash League, bowled brilliantly to take four wickets for the Bears.

Stephen Jennings also contributed with two scalps.

Batting at number eight, Richardson revived Freo’s innings with his swashbuckling knock, before Rimmington had him caught behind by Josh Philippe.

In reply, Bayswater-Morley started steadily before losing Rhys Hampson and Rimmington in quick succession.

The further loss of in-form youngsters Mitch Todd (7) and Philippe (duck) left the Bears in serious trouble.
