WAFL: Matt Riggio named Swans’ best for 2016

SWAN Districts Football Club celebrated its end-of-season at the 2016 Swan Medal on Friday.

Players, coaches, club legends and members attended the awards night where the season’s best individuals were recognised.

Premiership midfielder Matt Riggio polled 130 votes to win back-to-back Swan Medals ahead of Adam Faulkner and Tony Notte. Riggio averaged 25.7 disposals in his 20 games this season and also represented WA in the State game.

Forward Ricky Cary won the Ted Holdsworth Memorial Award for leading goal kicker for the second time.

Ruckman Jake Nuich, who suffered from a testicular cancer scare, won the Jack Hickling Memorial Award for most outstanding player on and off the field.

Young midfielder Jesse Turner was awarded the R.A Newby Award for rookie of the year after playing a total of 17 league games in 2016.

Women’s captain Kara Donnellan clinched the 2016 Mandy McSherry Medal Winner for being the best and fairest player.
