WAFL: Swan Districts add former AFL premiership players Steven Armstrong and Xavier Ellis to coaching staff

THE signings keep coming foor Swan Districts Football Club after they added AFL premiership duo Steven Armstrong and Xavier Ellis in coaching positions for the 2017 season.

Armstrong will join the club as the forward line coach while Ellis will coach the colts and take on an assistant role.

Senior coach Greg Harding said he was pleased with the signings.

“We are extremely pleased to have secured Steve as our forward line coach for season 2017,” he said.

“He brings with him a wealth of experience as a player and coach.

“To be able to also add someone of the quality of Xavier Ellis to the coaching ranks is so exciting for the footy club.

“Having played under Alistair Clarkson and Adam Simpson throughout his playing career, he will add an enormous amount to both the playing and coaching group next year.”

The coaching signings follow announcements delisted Fremantle Football Club player Clancee Pearce will join former West Coast Eagle Jamie Bennell and former Carlton player David Ellard at the club.

Harding said Pearce would add hardness, versatility and leadership to the group.

“He is really excited to get back and help us bounce back up the ladder,” he said.

“His professionalism is going to be a great example to our developing kids, and his passion for mentoring young men is going to make him one of our most important team members.”

Chief executive Tom Bottrell said the club was starting to build nicely for the 2017 season and supporters could expect more key announcements shortly.
