West Coast Eagles: Josh Kennedy prepares for “high-octane” Western Bulldogs

Josh KennedyEastern Reporter

THE win against Gold Coast on Sunday was incredibly important and while most people outside the West Coast Eagles thought we’d win easily going into the game, we have great respect for the Suns and knew it would not come without the work.

We did see some stuff in the media about the expectation of a comfortable win, but we are not influenced by the outside perceptions.

The Suns had some high-calibre players coming into their team, including Gary Ablett, Stephen May and Aaron Hall. Combined with Jack Martin, Tom Lynch and Dion Prestia, they have some A-Grade talent and we knew we would need to be at our best.

And fortunately we were able to do that.

It was an exciting day for Tom Cole to debut too.

He had been close to playing his first game a few times already this year, but with Elliot Yeo and Andrew Gaff out through injury he got his opportunity.

As the game went on, he picked up the tempo and certainly looked like he belonged at the level.

He will be a terrific player for a long time at the Eagles and I’m sure our fans will enjoy watching his career unfold.

Pretty quickly after the game our attention turned to playing the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium next Sunday.

The Bulldogs play a high-octane style of football and are going to be a tough proposition.

They are good on the inside, have some great outside run and some quality finishers up forward.

They have strengths in similar areas to us, so the individual battles will have a significant bearing on the result.
