Smoking tax: WestTV finds out what people really think

This smoker is looking to kick the habit, rather than pay the excise.

Last month the Turnbull Government announced it would increase the excise on cigarettes by 12.5 per cent for each of the next four years.

That means that by the year 2020, it will cost about $40 for a packet of smokes.

The move has been praised by public health experts, predicting it will lead to a decrease in smoking rates.

Some even believe WA will become virtually smoke free in years to come.

But how do the people of Perth – smokers and non-smokers – feel about the move?

WestTV took to the streets of Perth to get some thoughts.
