Christine Atkins opens new art exhibition inspired by ecosystem

Bryce LuffFremantle Gazette

FOR many the common garden snail is simply a pest you would rather not see.

But for Greenwood artist Christine Atkins snails, and the myriad other small creatures that make up our ecosystem, are much more, serving as inspiration for her 12-piece sculpture exhibition at the Linton and Kay Fine Art gallery in Subiaco.

“The snail reminded me of that inquisitiveness you have as a kid where you can stop and admire even tiny little things,” she said.

“It’s a reminder of that childhood experience of seeing things for the first time and going, ‘wow – look at that’, instead of seeing it as a pest that’s eating your plants.
