AN eclectic range of works are set to sparkle at the National Hotel’s latest art exhibition.

Four artists from around Perth are featured in the Natural Selection exhibition in the Staircase Gallery, Michelle Gilks (Canning Vale), Bec Bartell (Karrinyup), Jacek Gonsalves (Bibra Lake) and Vanessa Liebenberg (Rockingham).

From pyrography, which involves burning wood, to screen printing, drawing and pastels, there is something for everyone.

The exhibition opens tonight and runs until April 12 in the unique space, which occupies the central staircase and landing areas of the Fremantle hotel.

Gilks said the themes of her work were mostly botanical but also featured animals.

“It’s a bit of a mix of work in the exhibition, but I love colours,” she said.

The gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday from noon until late.

Art and the hotel have not always mixed well, with CCTV footage last September showing a hotel patron taking a $5000 artwork off the wall of the hotel.

WA Police closed their investigation into the incident after it was settled privately by the hotel and the man in the security |vision.
