Personal loss inspires song

IT’S been six months in the making but Fremantle musician Silva Dee is ready to release his song Demons Around.

Scheduled for release on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby on December 22, the song addresses how methamphetamine or ice is affecting West Australians, particularly young people.

The 58-year-old musician said the song was a highlight in his musical career. “In terms of production, this is one of best (songs) I’ve ever produced… It took a while working in the studio, I wanted it to make my hair stand… I’m proud of it,” he said.

Personal loss was at the heart of the song with Dee losing a good friend to ice, while others he knows still battle the highly addictive drug.

“I wrote this song because a friend of mine died because of ice… it really is tearing our youth and society apart,” he said.

Dee said he would consider the song a success if it saved at least one person from ice.
