TAKE an arty look at Fremantle’s biggest industry with a new exhibition at the Western Australian Maritime Museum.
Portals: past present future is a collection of work from 23 emerging and well-known WA artists, including Eva Fernandez, Perdita Phillips, David Small and Angelo Caranna, that look to inspire the imagination about maritime exploration and Fremantle’s working port.
Western Australian Museum chief executive Alec Coles said the theme was expressed through a creative collection of sculptures, ceramics, paintings and multi-media.
“This group of contemporary artists have been inspired by diverse maritime subjects.
“Many of the artists are direct descendants of immigrants who journeyed by ship to Australia, and have portrayed the pioneering efforts their relatives made in pursuit of a better future,” he said.
Portals: past present future is at the Maritime Museum until December 13.
