The touring exhibition War at Sea – The Navy in WWI has a collection of stories from the war, including the disappearance without a trace of Australia’s first submarine AE1 in 1914.

Rare archival footage of life at sea will also be on display.

WA Museum chief executive Alec Coles said it was important to remember the contributions Australian sailors and submariners made during war.

“This exhibition from the Australian National Maritime Museum draws on the personal accounts of Navy servicemen – through their diaries, mementoes, ship’s logs and their letters home – to tell their stories of bravery and sacrifice amidst the relative drudgery of life at sea, patrolling, blockading and escorting troopships,” he said.
