The Meeting Place is a hub for talks and events, classes, workshops and tutorials, offering everything from tennis courses, a playgroup, language classes, yoga and tai chi, quilting and The Food Lovers Club.
One of the new events on the program is a series of Cosplay activities, giving local pop-culture lovers and cosplayers a chance to sink their teeth into props workshops, photography and an introduction class into the growing phenomenon.
City of Fremantle community programs officer Christina Neubauer said the program theme was bringing the magic to life, which is what Cosplay was all about.
The current popularity of blockbuster movies featuring the classic superheroes and villains is a great source of creativity, inspiring people to breathe life into these characters by building, sewing and gluing together costumes and styling hair and make-up, she said.
It is a fascinating hobby and were thrilled to lift the lid on this sub-culture and get people excited about not just consuming popular entertainment, but actually becoming part of it.
Learning and engaging with new ideas is for everyone fostering a vibrant community means that people need to have an outlet where they can connect and exchange these new ideas.
As a community centre our program piques peoples curiosity, tempts them to step out of their usual routine and try something theyve never done before.
