COUNCILLORS from the City of Cockburn have backed a recommendation to support the draft Jandakot Airport Master Plan.

But that support will be subject to a modified Deed of Agreement outlining agreed road upgrades being executed before JAH submits the plan to the Federal Government.

The City has also called for the removal of all references to a connection between the airport’s southern precinct developments and Solomon Road.

‘To contemplate funnelling an almost 50-hectare new business park via Solomon Road down to its intersection with Armadale Road would create a traffic problem that could not be designed with an acceptable solution,’ said a report put to council on Thursday night.

‘Accordingly, (the City) will clearly advise that no connection into the airport via an extension of Solomon Road will be permitted.’

The City has also called on JAH to place more emphasis on the Southern Link Road, as it said was done in the previous plan in 2009, plus modifications to the design of southern developments to mitigate the potential impact on nearby rural properties.
