Gateway’s marketing manager Andrew Wilkinson told the Gazette Aldi’s arrival was an example of the shopping centre evolving to reflect the needs and desires of the local community.

“ALDI will further cement Cockburn Gateway as the grocery shopping centre of choice boasting all three supermarkets in the one complex,” he said.

Five youth fashion stores opened at the precinct in July, new shade has been added to the playground and a new parenting suite is also on the way.

German chain Aldi, popular in the eastern states before its arrival in WA this year, established a presence in Cockburn by opening at Lakes Shopping Centre on North Lake Road in August, while its distribution centre is in Jandakot.

Its first WA-based stores opened two months earlier.

Aldi plans to open 20 WA stores by the end of the year, with 70 planned for the state in the longterm.

Aldi has been contacted for comment.
