THE Help the Homeless Art Auction and Sale aims to bring the community together under a common goal; to help the less fortunate.
The art auction has been hosted for ten years and this year will raise funds for the Fremantle Street Doctor, Fremantle Multicultural Centre and St. Patrick’s Community Support Centre’s (St Pat’s) Starlight Hotel Choir.
The artworks have been organised by Soroptomists International.
Curator Lyn DiCiero said this year there was huge selection of work.
“Prices range from $50 all the way to $9000 and styles range from the historical to contemporary,” she said.
“There’s also sculptures as well as paintings, drawings and other mediums, it’s an incredibly diverse selection.
“We have some fun things including three mills and wares biscuit cases- we will sell them with biscuits in it.”
The St. Pat’s Starlight Hotel Choir will be performing on the night which Ms DiCiero said would add to the friendly atmosphere.
“There are many people who don’t know anything about art,” she said.
“It’s about bringing people together with a common purpose-to help, that’s what you feel in the room, the generosity.
“It’s a win-win situation, the services get supported and the buyers go home with artwork which will be a reminder of their help.”
St Pat’s chief executive Michael Piu said they were honoured to be a recipient of these funds.
“Unfortunately, the need for our services continues to grow so we’re very grateful for the extra funding provided by the generosity of the Soroptomists,” he said.
