Artist Open House Fremantle: local artists open homes to public

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

LOCAL homes will be turned into miniature galleries as Fremantle creatives open their doors to the public next weekend.

The Artist Open House Fremantle (AOHF) event has been growing in popularity since it began in 2014 and this year 24 artists will show and sell their work in private homes as they aim to make affordable art more accessible.

With artists such as Abdul-Rahman Abdullah, Alessandra Rossi, Britt Dunbar, James Tinsley, Susan Flavell and Tony Jones involved, founding director Cathrina Read said this year’s line-up was the best yet.

“We’re showing a wide range of artists to ensure there’s something for everyone and with the event in its third year, we’re in a better position to attract quality artists,” she said.

“AOHF is a unique event in that we show art in a context that is familiar to all of us – a family home – which helps our visitors visualise and desire the art in their very own home.

“We have artists in the homes to talk to our visitors, which helps in developing an understanding and appreciation for the artwork or the artist’s style.”

Artist Open House Fremantle is on from November 11 to 13.
