ART students have released the shackles ahead of an exhibition opening Saturday in Hamilton Hill.

Veteran impressionist painter Carl Haanappel has overseen the growth of 15 talented artists from his local studio.

He said it was time for their work to get the exposure it deserves, with that to happen at his gallery on Saturday.

“They have been painting for a couple of years now – some a lot longer – and they’re getting quite good,” he said.

“They’re showing wonderful skills and development and it’s always nice to reward that by having the pieces framed and on the wall for others to see. They deserve it.”

Despite his own successful career, Mr Haanappel said teaching was an important part of his life.

“These people have become my friends,” he said.

The exhibition will be open 1pm to 4pm on November 5, 6, 12 and 13 at the Carl Haanappel Studio Gallery at 16 Schofield Street in Hamilton Hill.
