THEY came to Australia to learn English seven years ago but Brazilian couple Taluana and Bruno Barreto have decided to stay and on January 26 will become Australian citizens.

“I can go out at night by myself without fearing for my life.

“The multiculturalism of this country, I love that for sure.

“I also love the fact that the government listens to the people. I’ve seen a few changes in WA that were generated by the citizens’ say.

“I get home from work still with time to watch the sunset at the beach; there are no traffic jams.”

Mr Barreto said although he missed his home country, friends and family, he was thankful to his new nation for helping him to become a citizen.

“I realised I wanted to live in Australia forever when I realised it was possible to become an Australian citizen,” he said.

“I love the lifestyle and beauty of this country.”

Many citizenship ceremonies will be held on January 26.
