Mr Smartt said he had |experienced a spike in calls |to remove the juvenile reptiles from homes and said many more would be born over the coming months. He said even though they are small, the juveniles could still pack a punch.

“People don’t think they’re a risk when they’re small but it’s playing Russian roulette to try and pick one up,” he said.

He said placing a bucket over the reptile was the best method of containing them until a qualified person could take them back to the wild.

“If it’s over eight to 10 inches leave it,” he said.

Mr Smartt has been catching snakes for 22 years. He can be contacted on 0417 930 587.
