WORK to repair the disintegrating rail bridge mural on Beeliar Drive is finished.

It was completed by artist Chandy Prendergast and features native flora, fauna and Cockburn attractions.

Cockburn MLA Fran Logan battled for years to get the bridge repaired and said the area now had the entry statement it deserved.

“It looks fantastic,” he said.

“It reflects the modern and dynamic way with which Cockburn is recognised.”

The City of Cockburn split the $65,000 repair bill 50-50 with the Public Transport Authority.Mayor Logan Howlett praised the finished product.

“When upgrades to the Beeliar Road Rail bridge underpass were undertaken earlier this year, there was damage to the existing mural on the southern side,” he said.

“We managed to track down the artist who had completed the original mural to commission him to repair the original and to paint a complementary piece on its northern side.

“The result is a very attractive piece of public art which captures some of the natural, cultural and recreational beauty of Cockburn” he said.
