Westvleteren 12, or ‘the greatest beer on earth,’ is the hardest beer in the world to obtain and one of the most in demand.

The brew is made by monks at the Abbey of Saint-Sixtus in Westvleteren, Belgium, and is not usually sold outside of the country.

But the monks have agreed to export small amounts overseas to fund renovations to the Abbey, and The Quarie couldn’t be more pleased.

‘To the best of my knowledge, (Westvleteren) has never been stocked and sold by a bar in Australia,’ venue manager Matt Marinich said.

He said the Quarie would sell a bottle of Westvleteren 6 for $79, the 8 for $89 and the 12 for $99. The different numbers denote the strength and magnitude of the beer.
