Fremantle police bicycle patrols gear up

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

Fremantle Police will gear up their bicycle patrols around the CBD to ensure beat officers remain highly visible and available to the public, thanks to the increased mobility the bikes provide.

Fremantle Police Acting Senior Sergeant Nathan Trenberth said it was about being more effective while on the Fremantle beat.

“Our main focus is in preventing and responding to crime in the CBD and to address anti-social behaviour,” he said. “We’ll be linking in with the CCTV cameras and responding to incidents along with our pro-active patrolling in known trouble spots.

“The bikes will be supported with the vans from the station and from our response teams, calling on the radio for a van to be deployed to their location where the arrested person will be conveyed back for processing.
