Bob swaps service from police to firies

The three-year-old german shepherd spent close to two years as a police dog but now trains with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, helping to find people in collapsed buildings.

He also acts as a mascot for the local rangers service.

People have been keen to pat the pooch and chat to Mr Smith ” a former police dog handler with 16 years of experience ” about the role of a ranger.

‘We started with him as an educational tool, visiting schools and community centres and things like that,’ Mr Smith said.

‘He’s a people dog, which makes him ideal for the role.’
