Body in suitcase: police call on public help to identify woman

POLICE have called for public assistance to help identify a woman whose body was found in a suitcase floating on the Swan River in East Fremantle on Saturday July 2 morning.

About 7:30am on Saturday, fisherman located the suitcase, which was then taken to Water Police headquarters in East Fremantle before the grisly discovery was made.

The suitcase was found 75m north-east of the outermost jetty in Aquarama Marina.

Early indications are the woman died in the past week.

The woman was described as being of Asian descent, between 35 and 45 years old, 158cm tall and approximately 59kg.

“The major crime squad are treating this matter a homicide,” Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Taylor told reporters.

“We are calling on the assistance of the public to help identify this woman.

“We are working with local, national and international partners in an effort to identify her.”

The woman was wearing a Kathmandu vest, a black T-shirt bearing a “Tokyo Disneyland” logo, and a long-sleeve shirt.

The suitcase is a large blue travel suitcase bearing the brand “SB Polo” and also contained distinctive ceramic tiles (see below).

Police have also called for information from anyone who have witnessed suspicious activity on or near the river in North Fremantle, East Fremantle or Mosman Park.
