The event allows brewers like The Monk the opportunity to be creative and experimental with the creation of a new brew especially for the festival.
The Monk head brewer Paul Wyman said it was the second year they had taken part in the event, which provided an opportunity for networking and showcasing their craft.
‘I had been daydreaming about the good old days and thinking about those choc-banana lollipops and then I basically thought, ‘there’s a beer in that’,’ he said.
‘I approached Nick from Eagle Bay Brewing Co who had brewed with cacao husks before, so his experience was a great asset.
‘The most important thing for us to attend an event like this is to get exposure and recognition from the general public as an award winning brewery because we are only a small venture compared to some of the other players out there, but we pride ourselves on quality over quantity.’
The Beer SpecTAPular is in Melbourne from May 24.
