By-elections for Federal seats of Fremantle and Perth called for July 28

FREMANTLE and Perth residents will go to the polls for Federal by-elections on July 28.

Two candidates are running in the seat of Perth, Patrick Gormanfor the ALP and Caroline Perksfor the Greens.

In Fremantle Josh Wilson is recontesting his seat and the Greens are running Dorinda Cox.

Deputy Opposition Leader Tanya Plibersek has slammed the date and said the Labor Party National Conference was scheduled for the weekend.

“When Barnaby Joyce was forced to resign, a by-election was called the same day for the soonest possible date,” she said.

“When John Alexander resigned, a by-election was called within days.

“Communities have been waiting weeks now to know when they will have the chance to choose their representatives.”

The Liberal Party has been contacted for comment.
