While it has become a common sight to see people living out of vans and cars along South Beach and the neighbouring Wilson Park, tents have been seen springing up around the North Mole.

It is an ongoing problem for the City of Fremantle, with field services manager Matthew Piggott saying they were active in trying to stop the groups of people camping illegally at local beaches during the summer months.

The issues with illegal camping are varied, but typically involve problems with litter, noise, open fires and anti-social behaviour, he said.

There is also the problem with the campers taking up public carparking space at peak times, which prevents legitimate visitors from enjoying Freos famous beaches.

We are currently working closely with local police, as well as looking at enhanced signage in these areas to try to reduce and hopefully eradicate the problem in the future.
