Celebration of cultures at fiesta

Staff ReporterFremantle Gazette

The free event, run by the Fremantle Greens, celebrates Refugee Week with a number of activities and entertainment, including a community drumming circle, songs and dancing, a Welcome to Country and the annual Walk Together through the streets of Fremantle.

Event coordinator Leonie Lundy said the entertainment would culminate in an African, Latin and Middle Eastern music jam session.

‘There’ll also be stalls to cater for a wide range of food tastes, fair trade products, related information needs and family activities including face painting, mask and badge making,’ she said.

‘Given the current issues surrounding refugees and asylum seekers in Australia, this is an exceptionally important call to unite, celebrate our cultural diversity and welcome those from shores afar.
