CEO putting homelessness on outer

Bryce LuffFremantle Gazette

CAN you imagine spending a cold night outside the safety of your own four walls?

That is the reality for more than 100,000 people who experience homelessness every night across Australia.

It is for that reason Pip Brennan will take part in the Vinnies CEO Sleepout on June 18.

Ms Brennan, executive director with the Health Consumers' Council, will join more than 120 local chief executives for a cold night sleeping rough at the WACA.

The Bibra Lake resident admitted she was apprehensive about a cold and sleepless night, but would be "beyond thrilled" if she could hand over her targeted $5000 to support the homeless.

"The best data we have shows 10,000 people in WA are homeless each night," she said.

"For a rich nation, a rich state, that figure seems unacceptable. Contrary to what many people think, the young experience homelessness.

"More than 60 per cent of the homeless are under 35 and more than 40 per cent of the young homeless are women.

"Knowing this just makes me want to get out of the comfortable armchair and do something.

"I know the money goes right to where it is needed."
