The charity is using the Sunflower Club Speedo Dash to raise money for regional families facing the challenge of blood cancer.

Tara Ward is one runner prepared to brave the winter chill for charity. The South Lake resident grew up watching her aunty help the less fortunate and was now keen to make her own contribution.

‘I remember I used to go along with her to keep her company when she used to sit on the end of help lines at night. She has also worked with people with disabilities and this year shaved her hair for the Cancer Council.

‘When I saw what the Leukaemia Foundation was planning on doing, I thought it was time to start helping out. The dash seemed like a bit of fun and a chance to raise some important money and get involved.’

Having already surpassed her fundraising target of $250, her next goal is to beat the elements.

‘I’m not looking forward to braving the winter chill. I feel the cold at the best of times and I work in Fremantle so I know how cold that chill can be around lunchtime.’
