Chocolate gets fair go at San Churro in Fremantle

Jessica NicoFremantle Gazette

The Fremantle store has committed to the Fairtrade Cocoa Program, which works on connecting cocoa farmers with businesses who want to buy their goods fairly and sustainably.

San Churro Fremantle owner Sharon Menzies said they were thrilled to support the program.

“As a local business, we’re all about providing the best chocolate indulgences and service in the most delightful way,” she said.

“Knowing that our support is helping to improve the lives of cocoa farmers and their communities around the world enhances the indulgence even further.”

Fairtrade Australia and New Zealand chief executive Molly Harriss Olson said 90 per cent of the world’s cocoa was grown on small-scale family farms but only 1.2 per cent of it was sold on Fairtrade terms.

“Fairtrade is all about doing business better and fairer and in the case of our Fairtrade Cocoa Program, it’s also a good excuse to eat more of what you love, and feel good about it,” she said.
