Mr Howlett’s remarks came as he pushed for public comment on the Cockburn Central Activity Centre Plan.
Highlighted within the document are plans to elevate Cockburn Central to central city status ” similar to Fremantle, improving local business activity through improved accessibility, and lobbying for direct access to eastern metro areas.
Mr Howlett said the plan would help the centre grow into a place of significance.
‘Cockburn Central has the capacity to become a leading metropolitan urban area to a thriving community,’ he said.
‘This plan will enable key planning issues to be addressed into the future.’
