Cockburn Men’s Shed looking for help with move

With the club on the move from Wattleup to a future base in Cockburn Central, treasurer Geoff Webb said committee members |were needed to provide leadership during an important time.

The club was dealt a blow when chairman Mike Manning was forced to step down recently due to concerns with his health.

“The main requirement at present is finding an experienced manager and administrators to come on to the committee on a volunteer basis,” Mr Webb said.

They would transition the Shed to the new home in Cockburn Central.

The $1.35m project is being developed on the corner of Buckley and Sullivan streets.

A ceremonial sod-turning event was held in July to celebrate a $484,000 Lotterywest grant. But Cockburn’s engineering and works director Charles Sullivan said actual work would start in June.

“We estimate completion in October and the opening planned for November 2017,” he said.

The new facility will house the Men’s Shed and a number of other community organisations.
