THERE is a new supermarket operating in Cockburn, but it isn’t Aldi.
Like the German chain, Woolworths opened doors to its newest store last Wednesday morning.
Its launch coincided with the opening of Frasers Property’s $21.4 million Port Coogee Village Shopping Centre, a development which Woolworths anchors.
The Port Coogee Village will feature a number of specialty stores including a hair salon, pharmacy, newsagent, bakery and optometrist.
Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett estimated hundreds had made it out for the opening.
Not all businesses were open on launch, although the centre has been fully leased.
It should be up and running at 100 per cent within days.
Frasers Property will host an official opening this Friday with a free morning tea, giveaways and live entertainment.
A family fun day will be held on Saturday.
The shopping centre is located on the corner of Orsino Boulevard and Calypso Parade.
The centre has 188 basement parking bays.
