THE Hamilton Hill Memorial Hall will host some of Australia’s biggest comedy acts in October.

Planned by the team behind Rottofest and Freo Royale, Vulture Culture’s Side Splitter Comedy and Arts Festival will feature 15 shows over four days.

Headlining will be Greg Fleet, Nick Cody and Sammy J, best known as one-half of the man-puppet duo Sammy J and Randy.

The festival will also feature a host of local artists and an outdoor pop-up bar.

“Side Splitter is basically us programming the best comedy acts we can get our hands on and bringing them to Cockburn, an area that traditionally doesn’t get much comedy,” festival director Ronan Freeburn said.

“We’ve seen that much comedy over the years that it’s easy to get jaded, but Side Splitter is going to be something special.”

Mr Freeburn, a Canning Vale resident, said the show would offer audiences something new, saying there was no point trying to be a Melbourne Comedy Festival 2.0.

The City of Cockburn helped fund the event, chipping in $25,000.

City spokeswoman Samantha Seymour-Eyles said the festival was a fantastic opportunity to host high profile performers and showcase the City’s local premier venue.
