Hilltop Coffee owner Catherine McDonald said the tram rides were an opportunity to celebrate the community and look at what was in the local area.

“I had the idea a while ago and then it got brought up at a group meeting as a way of showing Hilton to the wider community by hiring out a tram,” she said.

“We are hoping to show the hidden gems and history of Hilton while giving people a chance to get to know their neighbours.

“We’ll stop off at local cafes and businesses and there will be live music, face painting, coffee education sessions and more.”

Group co-convenor Britta Mathews said the purpose of the organisation, which is an initiative of the City of Fremantle, was to give the community a voice on council matters.

“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this so it’s very exciting,” she said.

The tram will depart every 45 minutes from noon to 3pm. People who are interested can gather opposite the Hilton Supa IGA on Paget Street.
