Alex Fisher will undertake the Flight of Solidarity, a solo flight around Australia, to raise awareness and money for the Royal Flying Doctors Service (RFDS).

He’ll depart Brisbane on June 21 in his single-engine Cessna 172, travelling anti-clockwise around the country. Along the way he plans to make about 50 stops, including a touchdown in Jandakot on June 29, before arriving back in Brisbane on July 12.

The young pilot, who holds the rank of flight sergeant with the Australian Air Force Cadets, said he helping at an orphanage in China last September inspired his challenge.

‘On my return to Australia, I decided I needed to help others less fortunate,’ he said.

‘It struck me I could combine my love for flying and my ambition to help others. Hence, I created Flight of Solidarity.’

Alex said there were would be challenges along the way and two experienced pilots would shadow his trip to provide help if needed.

‘The weather will be the biggest challenge and time has been allowed for delays,’ he said.
