South Metro Parenting Co-ordinator Angie Harper said Meerilinga, a not-for-profit organisation working with children, families, early childhood professionals, and centres across Perth, provided the best resource for families looking for help.

‘The heart of our service is to offer free support for families of children aged 0-12,’ she said. ‘We do this by way of home visits from fully trained family support workers who can offer positive, effective strategies for families dealing with parenting issues.

‘We can also offer telephone support and centre visits and often work in partnership with other support agencies.’

Ms Harper said her team looked to iron out problems early on.

‘Our approach is based on early intervention to help strengthen and support families who may be experiencing difficulties before they turn into problems,’ she said.

‘Many of our families are without personal support networks and we aim to help build resilience.’
